Through groundbreaking web technologies and the commercialisation of motion capture libraries, it now is relatively easy for digital modelers to apply realistic organic movement to their creations. These libraries are vast, and within a few clicks, can enable a model to run, jump, dance or even fire a gun.
The motion is divided into two categories, female and male. While mostly done to accommodate gender variations in anatomy, there are some motions which are unique to each gender. These are based on stereotypes.
This work looks at two of those motions, the male swagger and the female walk. They have been used to animate gendered, digitally sculpted characters, with one caveat – the motions are not animating their intended genders.
